Sivananda Yoga Vidya Peetham is running different Yoga/Vedanta courses in the beautiful ashram - Holistic Centre for Yoga & Vedanta founded by Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati Maharaj, in Maharashtra state, India since Aug 2022.

The Ashram is situated about 500 m away from the Amboli bus stand.

Amboli is 30 Km from Sawantwadi.
110 Km from Kolhapur.
90 Km from Goa (Panjim).
70 Km from Belgaum.

Accommodation

The ashram has beds in double sharing rooms and in 2 dormitories with 5 beds each.
Admission is on a first come first served basis.
To maintain the sanctity of the campus, we accommodate guests on the following conditions:
• No consumption of alcohol & non-vegetarian food.
• No smoking either on campus or outside while undertaking the course.
• Should follow the yogic way of life while in the ashram.

Food

The main meals are provided daily twice at 10.00 am and 5.30 pm.
The food is based on the Indian tradition. Menus are vegetarian, simple, nutritious... and delicious!
Prepared with love and care according to yogic dietary principles, two lacto-vegetarian meals are served daily. Absent from the menu are meat, fish, fowl, eggs, garlic, onions and coffee.
Tea is served at 7.30 am and 1.00 pm !!!

Fresh fruits, nuts and juices are available in the near by shops - 15 min of walking distance.

WiFi facility

During certain hours of the day, Wi-Fi facility is available in the Ashram premises.

Mobile phone usage

The best network for mobile phones is from Jio in the Ashram compound.
Guests may acquire a SIM card if they wish so, before arrival at the ashram.
Use of mobile phones in all classes, dining areas and also inside the rooms are discouraged due to the respect to other's privacy.

Post / Courier services

Incoming and outgoing letters and packages by post and courier services are available at the Ashram reception.

Library

There is no library facility in this location yet. However, a few books on Yoga will be made available with Teachers.

Safe Keeping

Valuables may be stored in a locked safe in the reception area, however this facility is provided at the Guest's own risk.

Do not leave valuables openly in the dormitories as petty theft may occur. We recommend you not to bring high value items to the ashram as we cannot guarantee the facilities to secure them.

An independent and affordable laundry service is available.

MATERIALS TO BRING

Casual comfortable clothes that fully cover arms and legs, yoga mat, meditation shawl, toiletries, notebooks, pens, slip-on sandals, warm clothing for very cool nights & cool mornings/evenings and clothes for warm days, flashlight, insect repellent, alarm clock, travel mug/tumbler, water bottle, sunscreen. Bring enough clothes during the rainy season.

Before you come

Visas/ID:

All guests must provide a valid government ID proof on arrival.
Foreign guests are required to present a valid passport and visa.
Check whether you are required to arrange a visa before you enter India.
Be careful to apply for a tourist visa, whilst you will be studying yoga here, a student visa is a very different visa and you will require supporting information which only academic establishments like universities can provide.
Your reason for visiting should be stated as a tourist.

Vaccinations:

You are advised to contact your local medical centre regarding any necessary vaccinations or medicines for your trip to India.

Money Exchange & Travel Arrangements

Amboli ashram is situated in a remote area. In the nearest bank - 500 m away - one can en-cash credit cards. It is highly recommended that the students en-cash (if needed) before reaching Amboli. For making travel arrangements, please approach the reception for guidance.

How to organise pick up by a taxi:

Those ashram guests who wish to be picked up by a taxi organized by the ashram itself, from the nearby airport or railway station or bus station should inform the ashram beforehand. This is highly recommended as the taxi driver organized by the ashram knows where exactly to bring you.

Taxi charges are not included in the course donations and are to be given directly to the taxi driver.

How to reach by air:

Airports close by :
The two near-by international airports are in the neighboring Goa state. They are Dabolim International Airport/Code GOI ( 115 km from Amboli and approximately 2.45 hrs of travel by taxi car) and Manohar International Airport - Mopa, Goa/Code GOX (56 km from Amboli and approximately 1.45 hrs of travel by taxi car).
Other International airports nearby are in Bangalore and Mumbai, from where one can fly into Goa.
Taxi can be arranged on prior request received with full details of flight number and date, by email.

How to reach by train:

The closest railway stations to the Amboli ashram are the Sawantwadi Road(SWV ) and Kudal (KUDL) stations which are on Konkan railway route. These are not major stations. All trains may not have stops here. Amboli is 30 Km from the station Sawantwadi Road.

The major railway station of Goa are Madgaon( MAO) / Karmali (KRMI) or Thivim(THVM) (80 to 110 km from Amboli ) is also along this railway route.

The other major station close by is in Belgavi and this station is not part of Konkan railway route.

All these stations are linked to all major cities in India by rail.

Trains are often fully booked. Train e-tickets can be booked up to three months in advance via the internet.
